Do you have questions about the minimally invasive vein treatment process? The top vein doc in New York describes their spider vein and varicose vein treatment plans.

Step 1: Insurance Verification

Our spider vein and varicose vein treatment clinic in New York provides free insurance verification before the appointment. You can request insurance verification by filling out a simple form online. Someone from the front desk team will reach out for your details, contact your insurance providers on your behalf, verify your coverage options, and help you schedule an appointment. Insurance verification before the appointment allows us to provide a complete overview of your vein treatment costs during the consultation.

Step 2: Initial Consultation

Your initial consultation with the vein doctor will have two primary goals — determining your specific concerns and diagnosing underlying chronic venous insufficiency, the root cause of most vein problems. The vein doctor will examine your leg veins for signs of vein disease, such as spider veins, varicose veins, and skin discoloration. The vein doctor will also ask about your symptoms — leg heaviness, restless leg syndrome, frequent leg cramps, and leg pain are common symptoms of vein disease.

Step 3: Vascular Imaging

After understanding your specific symptoms and concerns, the vein doctor will administer an ultrasound diagnostic test, known as duplex ultrasound. The scan will be performed by a technician, who will move the handheld device over your legs. The device will release ultrasound energy to visualize the blood flow in your leg veins on a computer screen, thus revealing if you truly have chronic venous insufficiency. The vascular imaging result can also support your insurance claims.

Step 4: Treatment Plan

The vein doctor will curate a personalized vein treatment plan according to your unique needs, goals, diagnostic results, budgetary concerns, medical history, and insurance coverage options. The vein physician will highlight all the available vein treatment options, including their pros, cons, and costs, helping you make an informed decision. Each vein treatment plan is customized according to the patient’s unique needs. You also receive a complete overview of the vein treatment cost before the procedure.

Step 5: Primary Vein Treatment

The primary vein treatment is for patients with underlying chronic venous insufficiency. The best minimally invasive vein treatments for underlying vein disease are radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, and venaseal. These procedures involve using thermal energy, laser energy, or medical-grade adhesives to collapse or seal the diseased vein’s walls. Once the diseased vein is neutralized, the accumulated blood reroutes into healthier leg veins, restoring optimal blood circulation to the heart. These procedures usually conclude within 30 minutes.

Step 6: Cosmetic Vein Treatment

The primary vein treatment won’t necessarily remove all the superficial varicose veins and spider veins from the skin’s surface. If you want to improve the appearance of your legs, the vein doctor can also provide cosmetic vein treatments, such as sclerotherapy or ambulatory phlebectomy. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sclerosant medicine into the spider veins to seal their walls shut, turning them into hardened scar tissues absorbed by the body. Ambulatory phlebectomy involves the physical extraction of superficial varicose veins through small incisions on the skin’s surface.

Step 7: Post-Treatment Recovery

Minimally invasive vein treatments usually conclude within an hour, following which you can resume your daily activities without downtime. You may need to wear ACE bandages for a day and compression stockings for a week or two, and you may have to avoid strenuous workouts for a few days, but you can resume most of your daily activities. Most patients seek minimally invasive vein treatments during their work lunch break, following which they return to work.

Step 8: Follow-Up Appointment

In some cases, you may need follow-up sessions after a few weeks. The vein doctor may have to split your spider vein treatment into multiple sessions if you have a large volume of spider veins. That’s because the vein doctor needs to inject sclerosant medicine individually into all spider veins — one injection per spider vein. You may need multiple sessions to remove all the spider veins. Your vein doctor will provide a schedule for your follow-up sessions, if necessary.
