The Varicose Vein Treatment Process
Vein Treatment Clinic, San Diego, has a unique varicose vein treatment process that relies on comprehensive care. Instead of merely removing the visible spider veins, we investigate the root cause of your problems to provide long-term relief. In most cases, spider veins, varicose veins, leg pains, leg cramps, etc., are caused by underlying chronic venous insufficiency.
Until you address the underlying disease, the superficial symptoms will simply continue returning. As such, we provide a comprehensive care solution that starts with diagnosis and ends with recovery, and the entire process concludes within an hour. Most of our patients can slot the treatment into their work’s lunch break to avoid reshuffling a busy schedule.
Step 1: Diagnose the root cause of the vein problems.
The first step in the varicose vein treatment process is diagnosing the root cause of your vein problems. Our vein specialists examine your leg veins to determine if you have signs and symptoms of vein disease, such as restless leg syndrome, frequent leg cramps, throbbing leg veins, varicose veins, etc. We also administer vascular imaging tests to visualize the blood flow in your leg veins to identify the underlying vein problem.
Step 2. Treat the underlying diseased saphenous vein with minimally invasive procedures.
Our board-certified vein doctors curate your varicose vein treatment plan based on your diagnosis. If you have underlying venous insufficiency, they recommend radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, or VenaSeal. If you don’t have underlying vein disease, or after the diseased saphenous vein is removed, they recommend sclerotherapy or ambulatory phlebectomy.
The primary vein treatment (radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, and VenaSeal) involves delivering thermal energy, laser energy, or medical adhesives into the diseased saphenous vein to collapse or fuse its vein walls. Once the diseased vein is collapsed or removed, the accumulated blood flows to healthier veins, restoring smooth blood circulation to the heart.
The primary vein treatment is followed by sclerotherapy. The vein doctors inject a medicine called sclerosant into the spider veins to fuse their walls. The diseased spider veins turn into scar tissues that eventually get absorbed by the body and fade away from the skin’s surface.
Step 3: Recovery and aftercare plan.
Minimally invasive varicose vein treatments don’t involve downtime or extended recovery. As such, you can leave the vein clinic and resume your daily activities immediately. However, you’ll have to wear compression stockings for a few weeks and avoid strenuous workouts for a few days.
