Wondering how to find an advanced vein clinic?
A top vascular surgeon shows you how to find an advanced vein clinic for comfortable varicose and spider vein treatment.
If you have varicose veins or spider veins, you would obviously want to get them treated at an advanced vein treatment center that can offer you great results. How do you identify such a place? Read on…
An advanced vein clinic employs trained vein specialists.
Almost any doctor is technically qualified to treat vein disease. However, vein doctors, called phlebologists, have had special training in the management of vein diseases. Therefore, they are much more likely to be accurate in their diagnoses, and can suggest appropriate treatment plans with more confidence. Getting your veins treated by a vein specialist ensures that there is minimum room for error. You should always choose a vein clinic that employs American board certified physicians, who have trained specially in the field of vein medicine.
An advanced vein clinic offers only minimally invasive treatment
Traditionally, vein diseases were treated by a procedure called vein stripping. This is an invasive surgery that involves hospitalization and a long recovery time. Today, however, there are minimally invasive procedures available, which can be done in the outpatient clinic and do not require hospital admission. These procedures are quick, maximally effective, and can be performed in under an hour. Minimally invasive procedures also do not require any recovery time – you can go back to work the very same day.
Some vein treatment centers may still prefer to opt for vein stripping, either because they lack the manpower, or the resources to perform minimally invasive procedures. You should always choose a vein clinic that performs only minimally invasive procedures.
An advanced clinic will have a notable online presence
A top quality vein clinic today always has an online website. The website must be transparent, and list the kind of services that are offered. You should be able to access the vein specialists’ profiles so that you can check out their experience and credentials. You should also be able to view actual case studied that highlight the differences before and after vein treatment. Finally, look at patient testimonials – it will give you a feel of the actual treatment experience.
An advanced vein clinic does not promote ‘laser’ as their best treatment approach
The word ‘laser’ does have a nice ring to it, and many vein clinics promote laser treatment as their first line of advanced, minimally invasive vein therapy. The truth is, laser surgery came into being almost fifty years ago, and, while it still has its uses, we’ve gone beyond that. Today, there are more advanced minimally invasive treatment options available that are more comfortable, and more or equally effective.
Preferred treatment options for larger varicose veins
Radiofrequency ablation: This procedure uses thermal energy to destroy your defective vein from within. The vein doctor will numb the skin over the defective vein, and make a tiny incision to expose it. A small radiofrequency catheter is then inserted into the vein to deliver the thermal energy. This procedure is actually similar to a laser technique called endovenous laser ablation, but a lot more comfortable.
VenaSeal: This cutting edge procedure does not even require local anesthetic and an incision. This technique consists of a simple injection, which delivers medicate glue into the defective vein. the glue seals off the vein and causes it to harden, and eventually get absorbed by the body.
Preferred treatment options for smaller varicose veins and spider veins
Sclerotherapy: This is the gold standard for treating small spider veins. A medicated solution, called sclerosant is injected directly into the defective vein. The sclerosant irritates the vein walls, causing them to stick together and seal off. Sclerosant only works over a limited area, and so this is used only for spider veins.
Varithena: Instead of sclerosant, this technique uses medicated foam, which can disperse over a slightly larger area. This can therefore be used for slightly larger veins.
Getting treated at the right vein clinic can improve your quality of life
If you have visible varicose veins or spider veins, these reflect the presence of a more complex condition called chronic venous insufficiency. This is a condition in which the valves at the top of your leg veins become weak. Since the job of these valves is to send blood efficiently from the legs to the heart, their weakness and failure allows blood to collect in the legs. This causes swollen ankles, throbbing, achy legs, and generalized fatigue, all of which can reduce your quality of life. In the long term, vein conditions can even have some serious consequences like blood clots and skin ulcers. So, start looking for the right advanced vein clinic – and get treated today!
