Vein Doctors & Staff

Vein Treatment Clinic is led by two of the most talented and experienced vein doctors in San Diego — Dr. Billy Schoenfeld and Dr. Jasmine Koo.

Dr. Schoenfeld is one of the co-directors of the vein center. He’s a double board-certified vein doctor specializing in venous medicine, critical care, and anesthesiology. He completed his residency training at the University of California, followed by an advanced fellowship training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After his training, he served as a faculty member at Harvard, where he treated some of the world’s sickest patients. As such, his experience with vein treatments is truly invaluable.

Dr. Koo has a similarly stellar training background. She graduated with Honors from the University of Washington, following which she acquired her medical degree from the Chicago Medical School. She was also offered a coveted residency position in Diagnostic Radiology in Detroit Medical Center, following which she completed advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive procedures at the University of Texas Interventional Radiology Department. Dr. Koo specializes in minimally invasive treatments for chronic venous insufficiency, the root cause of spider veins and varicose veins.

The Vein Treatment Clinic has a unique reputation as the best spider vein center in San Diego, CA. This article provides a comprehensive description of the vein center and its vein doctors.

While Dr. Schoenfeld and Dr. Koo are certainly exceptional, they’re not the only talented vein doctors at the Vein Treatment Clinic. We have multiple vein centers across the country, and they’re all led by equally talented, experienced, fellowship-trained vein doctors with stellar certifications and educational backgrounds.

Our vein doctors in SD consult with all other vein doctors and medical directors to curate the ideal treatment plan. Consulting one of our vein doctors is like consulting with most of the countries leading vein experts at once.

Comprehensive Care

Our vein centers in San Diego (and everywhere else) believe in comprehensive vein care. However, to understand comprehensive care and its importance, you must understand a few basics of vein disease.

Spider veins and varicose veins are the most common and visible vein problems. Most people assume they’re not medically dangerous, but that’s inaccurate. Spider veins and varicose veins are often symptomatic of a circulatory disorder called chronic venous insufficiency, which is pretty dangerous.

Venous insufficiency is a condition wherein the vein valves in your veins collapse. The vein valves are generally responsible for maintaining healthy blood circulation to the heart. They allow blood to flow towards the heart but prevent it from flowing backward due to gravity. When your vein valves collapse, blood flows backward and accumulates in the leg veins, leading to spider veins, varicose veins, and numerous other vein problems.

Most vein centers, especially medical spas, treat spider veins and varicose veins without addressing the root cause. That might seem to produce results — the spider veins and varicose veins may eventually fade away. However, since the underlying vein disease isn’t treated, there’s a high risk of recurrence.

Our fellowship-trained vein doctors always identify the root cause of your spider veins and varicose veins before curating a treatment plan. They examine your leg veins, review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and administer vascular imaging tests. This allows them to identify underlying vein disease and curate a comprehensive vein care plan.

Minimally Invasive Treatments

Our spider vein and varicose vein treatment center in San Diego only provides minimally invasive treatments for vein disease.

Two decades ago, vein problems could only be treated with complicated surgeries, such as vein stripping, vein ligation, and venous bypass surgery. Vascular surgery has a high risk of complications, such as deep vein thrombosis and infections, and involves considerable downtime.

However, our fellowship-trained vein doctors only provide the latest minimally invasive treatments for spider veins and varicose veins. Our vein treatment options include radiofrequency ablation, laser ablation, VenaSeal, sclerotherapy, and ambulatory phlebectomy.

Minimally invasive vein treatments are safe, effective, and convenient. They’re performed as in-office procedures that conclude within 30 minutes. There are no harsh side effects or complications, and most people resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment.
