What Treatments Are Offered at the Top Spider Vein Clinic in New Jersey? A Top Vein Doctor Answers.

spider and varicose vein treatment center

Spider vein treatment can range from a single procedure, to a number of sessions, depending on the extent of your condition. A top spider vein clinic in New Jersey will be able to tell you exactly what treatments you require. Here are some of the treatments that may be offered:

Treatments for spider veins:

Sometimes, you are just looking to get an esthetic fix for those ugly blemishes on your legs – just so that you can start wearing shorts again! If you do not have any symptoms – throbbing legs, swollen ankles, or heavy feet, to name a few –  you can go ahead with one of the following treatment options:

Sclerotherapy:

This is a minimally invasive treatment procedure which basically consists of injections using really tiny needles. The needles deliver sclerosant – a medicated solution – directly into each spider vein individually. During the injection, you can actually see the spider veins disappear as the solution pushes the blood out of the veins. This is not how it works, however; you will see your veins reappear in an hour. The sclerosant actually acts on the spider vein walls, causing them to swell up and stick together, sealing off the spider vein. Your veins will disappear permanently in about a month.

Laser light treatment:

If your spider veins are located on your face, your vein doctor may not want to use sclerosant, as this carries the risk of getting too close to your brain. Instead, your doctor may use a non-invasive procedure that uses laser light. The light penetrates your skin and its heat causes the spider veins to shrink. However, you may need more than one treatment session to achieve the same results as sclerotherapy – three to four sessions is usually the norm.

Treatment for underlying venous insufficiency:

Sometimes, you notice that your spider veins are tender, swollen and painful. Or perhaps you suffer from leg pain, leg cramps or swollen ankles, especially at the end of a long day. If this is the case, you probably have an associated vein problem called chronic venous insufficiency, which is actually causing your spider veins to form. In this condition, a large leg vein called the saphenous vein is diseased, and needs to be shut down. Our vein doctors do this through one of the following methods:

  • Radiofrequency ablation: A radiofrequency catheter is inserted into the saphenous vein. Radiofrequency waves deliver heat from the catheter to the inside of the vein. This causes the vein walls to melt and eventually scar, sealing off the vein.

  • Endovenous laser ablation: This works just like radiofrequency ablation, except that a laser fiber is used instead of a radiofrequency catheter. Laser energy seals off the vein permanently.
  • VenaSeal: This cutting edge yet simple technique used medical grade glue, delivered in drops through a catheter to the inside of the vein. External pressure is applied for a few minutes to compress the vein. During this time, the glue hardens, sealing the vein shut.
  • ClariVein: This is sclerotherapy adapted for larger veins A special catheter with a rotating tip is used to disperse sclerosant inside the vein. The rotating tip ensures that the sclerosant reaches all parts of the vein.

Residual varicose vein treatments:

After you are treated for venous insufficiency, your symptoms disappear, but you may still have visible varicose veins and spider veins. While sclerotherapy is used for spider veins, varicose veins are treated by a process called Varithena, where a foam based sclerosant is injected directly into the veins. The foam allows the sclerosant to spread out a little more, treating a wider surface area.
