A vein doctor can offer you proven remedies according to what you need

A vein doctor is more familiar with matching treatment protocols to specific types of spider veins. Vein doctors are also skilled in performing a variety of procedures. Therefore, the choice of spider vein treatment would be based on what suits your body best, and not based on what procedure the physician is familiar with, or is trained to do.

Most vein doctors would offer sclerotherapy as the first line treatment for spider veins, unless it is contraindicated for specific reasons. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive technique that involves introducing a medicated solution into those spider veins. The solution, called sclerosant, makes the vein walls swell up and stick together. Over time, the vein shrinks and disappears.

Sclerotherapy, while painless, is a technique sensitive procedure which requires special training.

A vein doctor can tell you if you have other vein conditions that need treatment

Usually, spider veins form as an adjunct to a more complex vein condition, known as chronic venous insufficiency (CVS). In CVS, the main veins of the leg, called the saphenous veins, become diseased, so they can no longer return blood back to the heart efficiently. This causes the impure blood to accumulate in the legs. The large volume of blood increases the pressure in the blood vessels, and the excess blood forces its way into defective, tiny new veins. These new veins become visible under the surface of the skin as spider veins.

Treating your spider veins alone without sorting out the CVS can compromise treatment, and your spider veins may just re-appear. An experienced vein doctor will always evaluate you for CVS, and will be able to detect it if it is present.

If you are looking for spider vein treatment in Texas, there are a number of things you need to keep in mind before you go ahead and get treated. This article tells you how to ensure that you get effective, quality spider vein treatment.

Spider vein treatment in Texas: Choose a vein clinic that offers minimally invasive vein treatment.

When you check out a vein clinic online, you would probably notice words like ‘non-invasive’ or ‘minimally invasive’. Why is this important?

‘Invasive’ refers to the extent to which your body is going to be manipulated. This would naturally correlate with the amount of pain that you feel, and the amount of time needed to recover from the procedure. Until a few years ago, vein disease was treated with ‘invasive’ treatment. This included vein stripping, or vein ligation, which required hospital admissions, long skin incisions and sutures, and prolonged recovery time.

Today’s minimally invasive procedures involve very minor skin manipulation. Most of the time, simple numbing of the skin followed by a tiny nick is all that is required to access the defective vein and treat it.  There are two commonly used minimally invasive procedures that utilize this method – radiofrequency ablation(RFA) and endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). In RFA, a radiofrequency catheter is inserted into the vein, while in EVLA, a laser fiber is inserted through the incision. Through these, heat is delivered to the entire vein, and this destroys the diseased vein from within. While both procedures are equally effective, laser treatments can be more uncomfortable because of the intensity of the laser beam.

More advanced minimally invasive procedures have been introduced recently, which bypass even the skin numbing and incision. VenaSeal, for instance, is a cutting edge procedures that requires only a simple injection. This injection delivers medicated glue into your diseased vein, which blocks it up from within.

Because these techniques are minor, they do not require hospital admissions – they can be done in less than an hour at an outpatient clinic. They also do not need any recovery time – you can get back to your normal routine as soon as the procedure is complete!
