How do I find a top vein center in NYC? A top vascular surgeon answers.

spider and varicose vein treatment center

Is the vein center in NYC completely focused on treating vein disease?

Most people do not give this much thought, but a clinic that primarily performs vein treatment procedures is much more likely to attain great results, as compared to a clinic that performs a wide variety of surgical procedures. Is there really such a great difference? Well, yes, for two main reasons.

Firstly, a vein doctor who works at a dedicated vein clinic is likely to have a lot more experience in doing vein procedures, as compared to someone who has been doing a lot of other procedures as well. Secondly, a dedicated vein clinic is more likely to spend its money on resources that improve vein treatment– therefore they probably have more advanced equipment and treatment options. So be sure to choose a vein center that is completely focused on treating vein disease!

Does your vein center have more than one vein doctor?

It is true that you only need one doctor to physically treat your varicose veins. But if you choose a vein center with a team of vein specialists, you get to have the brains of all of them. When vein doctors work as part of a team, they tend to consult with their colleagues and seek out opinions – especially if they are from different medical specialties!

Do all the vein specialists at the vein center have good credentials?

Always check out f your vein doctor has good credentials. A good vein doctor is generally board certified in an important area of medicine – such as internal medicine, anesthesiology, or surgery. Ideally, your vein doctor should have trained at a well-known medical school. Additional certifications, such as the one from the American Board of Vein Medicine, are an added bonus.

Vein diseases such as varicose veins and spider veins need special care, and choosing the right vein clinic can make a difference. We offer some tips on choosing the best vein center in NYC.

Does the vein clinic in NYC offer minimally invasive vein treatment?

Some vein clinics only offer surgical options, such as vein stripping or ambulatory phlebectomy, due to limited resources on hand. Surgery can be extremely painful, and you will need ‘higher end’ anesthesia such as general or spinal anesthesia. Recovery is equally uncomfortable and can take a minimum of two weeks. However, vein centers with adequate resources prefer to offer ‘minimally invasive’ treatment procedures. In these procedures, the veins are visualized through ultrasound imaging, which allows the vein doctor to access it through tiny points – just enough to allow a small catheter to enter the vein. Using the catheter, the vein is treated from within, which means that it is sealed off from blood flow. This achieves the same effect as physically removing the vein, and is a lot more comfortable! You also do not need any recovery time whatsoever – you can get back to your regular routine on the very same day.

Does the vein treatment center accept your insurance plan?

Vein treatment can be expensive, and you would not want to pay out of pocket for it. Insurance plans do cover most types of vein treatment, and you should choose a vein center that collaborates with major insurance plans. Most of the time, a vein clinic’s front desk will verify this information for you even before your first appointment.

What kind of reviews does the vein center in NYC have?

The best people who can shed light on the quality f service provided are patients who have visited the vein clinic before. Online reviews can give you valuable insight on various points, such as the kind of procedures, the comfort level with the treating physician, the hygiene and sterility maintained, and the care and compassion shown by the clinic staff. Apart from online reviews, you could look at ‘before/after’ pictures available on the clinic website – this will give you an idea of what kind of results you can expect after treatment.
