spider and varicose vein treatment center

What is the most important thing to look for at vein clinic in Suffolk County?

When you choose a vein clinic to fix your varicose veins or spider veins, there are several things you may wish to look at – the location, the kind of facilities available, and so on. But what is the most important thing you need to look at? Of course, this is the vein doctor. The success of your vein treatment depends mostly on how good your vein doctor is. So, before you go ahead and fix an appointment, be sure to take a look at the bio of the vein physician you will be consulting with. Here are some of the things you should at:

  • Is your vein doctor board certified in their particular field? This shows that they are accredited experts.
  • How experienced is your vein doctor? How many years have they been treating vein disease? More experience generally equates to more skill and less errors.
  • Has your vein doctor been recognized by the American Board of vein medicine? While there are several skilled vein doctors who do not have this certification, it is nonetheless a special badge of distinction in this field.
  • What do the patient reviews say? Is the vein doctor kind and compassionate? Is he/she a good listener? You would want to choose someone who you are sure of being comfortable with!
It is natural to want the best treatment for their varicose veins and spider veins. This article lets you know what you need to focus on while choosing a top vein clinic in Suffolk County.

What can you expect at your first visit to a vein clinic in Suffolk County?

If you schedule a consultation with a vein specialist for treating varicose veins or spider veins, you may be wondering what you should expect. At your first visit, the vein doctor usually gets details on your medical history. An experienced vein specialist will always want to know if you have had any symptoms that may be indicative of vein disease. So if you have had throbbing pain in your legs, or your feet tend to swell up after you have been sitting or standing for long periods of time, or your legs simply tire out easily, be sure to report it to your vein doctor – these are quite possibly signs of vein disease. Of course, a skilled vein doctor will be able to draw out these symptoms from you by asking the right questions!

Based on your history and symptoms, the vein doctor may offer to ‘scan’ your veins. This is done using a quick, non-invasive imaging technique called the duplex ultrasound. Varicose veins and spider veins are primarily caused by larger defective veins that do not efficiently drain the leg of blood; this condition is called venous insufficiency. The ultrasound can locate these defective veins by identifying abnormal blood flow. You will need to treat these defective veins, as well as the visible varicose veins and spider veins, to keep the problem from recurring!

Choosing the right vein treatment is the next important decision

Vein treatment definitely is not a one size fits all approach – your vein specialist should set you up with a customized treatment plan based on the number and type of veins that are defective. Most vein treatments carried out today is ‘minimally invasive’ – that means you do not need to surgically remove them. Instead, the vein doctor treats the veins from within. To treat defective veins with venous insufficiency, the following methods are used:

  • Radiofrequency ablation: A catheter is inserted into the vein under imaging guidance. Through this, radiofrequency waves are delivered to the vein, which generate heat and help seal the vein.
  • Endovenous laser ablation: This is similar to RFA, but uses laser energy to generate heat. Most vein doctors prefer not to use it as it generated higher temperatures, which can potentially cause more discomfort.
  • VenaSeal: This does not eed a catheter; medical grade glue is directly injected to block up the vein.

Any spider veins remaining after treatment for venous insufficiency are usually treated by sclerotherapy. This involves direct injection of a medical solution called sclerosant into the vein. The solution makes the vein walls stick to each other, effectively sealing off the vein. For residual varicose veins, which may be larger, a foam based sclerosant is used for injection this technique is called Varithena.

For a truly customized treatment plan, ask your vein doctor if all these options are readily available! Then you can choose the one that appears to fit you the best.
