Your 5-step Plan to Beautiful Legs: Get Personalized Spider Vein Treatment in New Jersey

harvard trained vein doctors | voted #1 vein center | spider and varicose vein treatment center

Are you looking for spider vein treatment in New Jersey that is practically designed to suit you? Follow our 5 step plan – you can’t go wrong!

1. Identify your concerns

Before you set up your appointment at a top vein treatment clinic in New Jersey, ask yourself: what exactly is it that you are looking for? Some of us just want great looking legs, and the ability to wear shorts whenever we like, with confidence. If that is the case, you are looking at pure cosmetic treatments – they may be no need to dig deeper into causes and consequences, unless you choose to do so. On the other hand, some of us do have painful symptoms bothering us – those throbbing legs, aching feet when we stand for long periods, swollen ankles, or even leg cramps. If you have these issues, and suspect that your spider veins may be causing them, you may want your vein doctor to take a long, hard look at your veins – and fix the underlying problem.

2. Set your treatment goals

Once your concerns are identified, it should be easy enough to find out what your treatment goals are. If you want cosmetic results, for instance, your treatment goals would be geared towards treating only the spider veins that show up on prominent areas of your legs. If you are looking for pain relief, you would want your vein specialist to take things in hand, and advise you on a more comprehensive treatment strategy.

3. Set up an initial consultation

The next step in your spider vein treatment journey should be to set up an appointment with an experienced vein doctor. At your initial consultation, your vein doctor will ask you what you have already identified in step 1 and 2; this will help them understand your needs better. After a thorough examination of the problematic veins, your vein doctor may order an ultrasound to get a good look at your blood vessels, and identify all the defective veins present.

4. Agree on a treatment plan

After the vein doctor examines your veins – both clinically and through an ultrasound – they will be in a better position to offer you a personalized treatment plan. Your vein treatment plan will depend on:

  • Your medical history – any past vein problems, family history
  • Treatment goals – esthetics or pain relief
  • Clinical examination: number and kinds of defective veins, and their severity
  • Ultrasound results: Pattern of blood flow in your veins.

Your vein specialist will then outline the treatment plan to you and together, you can decide whether this will suit your needs.

5. Get your treatment

Obviously, the next thing on your agenda would be to go ahead with your spider and varicose vein treatment! Today, most vein clinics only offer minimally invasive vein treatment, as opposed to vein removal surgery which was practised a decade ago.

Treatment for spider veins – Sclerotherapy:

A medicated solution, called sclerosant, is injected into the veins. The sclerosant irritates the vein walls and makes them stick together, cutting off blood flow in the vein. This acts on a limited area, so can only be used for smaller veins, like spider veins.

Treatment for varicose veins:

  • VenaSeal: This is the most minimally invasive technique available. This involves only a single injection, through which medicated glue is delivered into the vein. The glue causes the vein walls to stick together, and stops blood from flowing through the vein. Over time, the non-functional vein is absorbed by the body.
  • Radiofrequency ablation: This is similar to laser ablation, but a lot more comfortable. The skin over the defective vein is numbed, and a small incision is made to reach the vein. A small radiofrequency catheter is then inserted into the vein. Heat delivered through the catheter destroys the vein.
  • Clarivein:An advanced technique that allows sclerosant to be used in larger veins. The sclerosant is delivered through a tiny catheter, implanted in your vein. The catheter rotates and disperses the solution throughout the vein.

Treatment for residuals – Varithena:

This is used for leftover medium sized veins. Instead of liquid sclerosant, medicated foam is injected. Foam tends to disperse over a slightly larger area.
