Dr. Amery is passionate on educating women in the community on cardiovascular disease. She has volunteered her time to give countless amount of lectures on women and heart disease, the importance of knowing your risk factors and how behavior modification can change results. She interviewed with local media to raise awareness of heart disease in women. Dr. Amery discovered the world of veins as she noticed some of her patients were suffering from varicose veins and developed venous ulcers (wounds). Dr. Amery was not only the first cardiologist but also one of the very few physicians in the United States that completed a phlebology fellowship. Many of her patients have complex vein disease with difficult anatomy and she has mastered the newest techniques in vein procedures.

Areas of expertise
Venous Medicine
Dr. Amery was the medical director of the WakeMed Heart Failure Program. She was also the medical director of the American College of Cardiology for the acute myocardial infarction initiative program. In addition, she was the medical spokesperson for women and heart disease at WakeMed Heart and Vascular.
She decided to complete a fellowship in phlebology (veins studies) at Stony Brook University Hospital at Stony Brook, NY. She had the opportunity to train with world renowned vein specialists who are leaders in the field and board certified vascular surgeons. During her fellowship, she participated in research on venous disease that led to two publications in the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Sahar Amery moved from England to the United States during her high school education. Since high school, she was involved in many voluntary organizations in servicing the community. She always had the passion of caring for people and knew one day she would enter into the medical field. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with minor in chemistry and premedical studies, Dr. Amery completed graduate studies in Community and Public Health education.
After completion of medical school at New York Medical College in Westchester, NY, Dr. Amery went on to complete her internal medicine residency at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. During her third year of residency, she was chosen as one of the four junior chief residents. She then went on to become Chief Resident of the internal medicine program. Following her chief residency year, Dr. Amery completed her cardiovascular fellowship at Albany Medical Center gaining expertise in non-invasive cardiology including procedures in cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiogram, and stress testing. After completion of her cardiovascular fellowship, she went into practice as a non-invasive cardiology for many years, and then went on to complete a second fellowship in Phlebology.
