Differing laser vein treatment reviews making you confused? A top vein doctor shares some insight.

Laser treatment for varicose and spider veins is very popular today, but not everyone seems happy with it. Does laser treatment actually work? To understand that, you need to know more about what actually goes into the procedure. Read on!

There are two kinds of laser therapy depending on the kind of diseased vein you have.

If you look at laser vein treatment reviews carefully, you will notice that it can vary depending on the kind of vein. That is because there are two specific kinds of laser treatments that vein specialists perform– one for smaller spider veins, and another for larger varicose veins.

Laser treatment for spider veins

This is purely a cosmetic procedure, which aims at removing those purplish or bluish blemishes on your legs.  Also known as blue light therapy, this is a non-invasive method in which laser light is applied to the surface of the skin over the spider veins. The light emits photons, which penetrate through the skin and generate heat. The heat causes the spider veins to shrink and dissolve. While this procedure is effective, it is a long process, and you will not see results in a single session. You will need at least three to four sessions before you can see your veins start to disappear. You may also notice some burning of the skin with this procedure.

Laser treatment for varicose veins and venous insufficiency

Varicose veins stem from a deeper underlying condition called chronic venous insufficiency, where the main saphenous vein of the leg is diseased and blood flow back to the heart is not efficient. Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) is a minimally invasive treatment procedure that shuts down the diseased vein. This not only helps improve appearance, it also relieves unpleasant symptoms associated with varicose veins, including aching, heavy feet, swollen ankles, and cramps. This procedure requires local anesthesia to skin over the main vein. The skin is incised, and a laser fiber is inserted into the vein. Heat generated through the laser fiber destroys the vein from within. While this procedure is effective, it can be associated with some procedural discomfort, which you do not see with more modern minimally invasive procedures.

Treatment of spider veins is a simple process when you are in expert hands. At Vein Treatment Clinic, you can receive high quality care from a top Spider Vein Doctor in Long Island.

Better treatment options do exist for varicose and spider veins.

While laser treatment for varicose veins is reasonably effective, there are alternative vein treatments, which may actually cause a lot less discomfort during the procedure, have less side effects, and are equally effective.

Alternates to laser light therapy for spider veins: Sclerotherapy is the most effective remedy to get rid of spider veins. This is a simple, minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that involves a simple injection. The vein doctor uses really tiny needles to inject a medicated solution, called sclerosant into your spider veins. The solution irritates the walls lining of your veins, causing it to become sticky, and eventually fuse together. This stops blood from flowing through these defective veins. Over time, the non-functional veins get digested by the body, and disappear completely from view. A single injection of sclerotherapy can lead to almost 80% improvement in the appearance of spider veins.

Alternates to EVLA for varicose veins:

  • Radiofrequency ablation: This technique is exactly similar to EVLA, except that a raiofrequency catheter is used instead of a laser fiber. The catheter delivers heat energy throughout the length of your vein, which melts the vein walls and fuses them. This technique does not cause as much discomfort as EVLA, and is equally effective.
  • VenaSeal: This is an advanced minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins that does not even require a numbing injection. Medical grade glue is injected into the defective vein. This acts almost immediately and fuses the vein walls together. The treated vein eventually gets digested by the body and disappears.
  • Clarivein: This is another technique that does not require numbing and incisions. This involves the insertion of a miniscule catheter into the defective vein, under imaging guidance. The catheter rotates within the defective vein, and disperses sclerosant throughout the vein. The solution irritates and scars the vein.
